Oh mycology!

My journey from mycophobia to mychophilia

About Oh Mycology!

Mushroom

Oh Mycology! is a collection of photos and stories gathered along my journey from mycophobia to mycophilia. Some of these posts are about events from a few years ago, but my journey is still ongoing as I try to learn about the biology of fungi and how to identify different species. With that said, I am not an expert of mycology and I cannot guarantee everything I say here will be correct. But I will do my best to be as accurate as possible. I am also learning how to make this website as I go along so it will continue to be updated and improved. I also want to note that these photos are all taken on my phone and I do not have any phtography experience, so the image quality may not be great, but I am working on it!

I currently live in Portland, ME and am loving the amount of fungal foraging here. I am fascinated by many aspects of biology and enjoy finding connections between them. Some of my other favorite organisms are squirrels, anything that lives in the ocean, and arthropods. I also have a collection of arthropod photos I've taken and have been sent over the years that may one day get a website of their own.

One of my favorite ways to discover fungi is while out running. I try to always bring my phone on my runs so that if I come across an interesting fungus I can take a photo. Besides running I also enjoy cooking (with and without mushrooms), learning new things (like how to make a website), drinking tea (have you tried chaga chai?), and going on adventures.

If you have any fungal knowledge or any other interesting facts or ideas, please share with me! (contact info at bottom of page) If you are not a fungi fan, I hope you still enjoy this blog and are inspired to learn more.

Peace, love, fungi
